I recently watched the TV series, The Queen of News. This is a fantastic series that talks about two parties vying to dominate SNK (a virtual TV station) in HK. I love the female lead, Wen huixin, also Ms. Man (pronunciation of Wen in Cantonese), who is the most popular anchor in HK. She is quite strict but possesses exceptional journalistic professionalism, so she had many rivals as well. Liang Jingren was one of them, and he was also the one posing the greatest threat.

I have to say this series has changed my view on media and the workplace. The real world is cruel. If you have ambition but are not smart, you will end up in bad situation such as sidelined excluded or expelled. Sometimes, it is normal to do whatever it takes to achieve your goals. For example, Ms. Man took advantage of the desire for recognition, “tempting” Tang zhiyao to obtain an important movie. However, this behavior led Tang to be dismissed.

There are also many other scenes which made me feel uncomfortable. It’s tough for women in the workplace: some compromise their integrity, some falsely accuse others of misconduct just for an anchor position, and so on. What’s more, there are no true friends in such a large TV station but permanent interests. I am afraid that if I work in a famous TV station, I will be ignored or sidelined. It just feels like my ideal world is has fallen apart.

I do not know what I should do in the future. Journalist? Anchor? Marketing? I am not sure.
